Following complaints from pilots about laser beam hazards, Kolkata's Bidhannagar Police imposed Section 144 in areas surrounding the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI). The decision comes after pilots of inbound flights raised concerns about laser beams from hotels and banquets posing threats to aircraft during landing. The prohibitory orders, effective until June 29, aim to prevent the use of sky-pointing laser beams within the airport's free flight zone, as stated in the order issued by the commissioner of Bidhannagar Police.

The laser beams, reported from areas including Narayanpur, Baguihati, and Nicco Park, pose risks to aircraft safety and have prompted numerous complaints from pilots. Incidents of pilots being momentarily blinded by laser beams, endangering the safety of flights, have been documented, prompting urgent measures to prevent potential harm. The imposition of Section 144 aims to curb such incidents and ensure the safety of both passengers and aircraft during landing operations at NSCBI airport.
